Stirling City Heritage Trust has been delivering the Historic Environment Scotland funded scheme within the Stirling city boundary since 2013, with a trial expansion to Bridge of Allan from March 2021.

Since expanding to Bridge of Allan last year, the team have been supporting owners to undertake work on their properties, through subsidised property inspections, advice on undertaking repairs, and Traditional Building Repair Grants.

Owners of pre-1919 properties in Dunblane and Blairlogie can now also join as members of the scheme and get access to the subsidised property inspection service, and repair and maintenance advice services.

The trial expansion of the TBHC scheme is in recognition of the requirements to keep traditional buildings in good repair and the expert support needed to achieve this. While traditional buildings are resilient, there is a need for a proactive approach to their care. The impact of climate change combined with a legacy of irregular maintenance has increased the wear on traditional building materials.

Finding defects before they become critical can save time and money. Delaying repairs can cause more damage, significantly increasing the cost to remedy faults.

The Conservation Areas of Dunblane and Blairlogie contain notable examples of traditional Scottish architecture. By expanding the scheme to these areas, the TBHC can help owners of traditional buildings to proactively care for their properties, helping to protect them for the future, and preserving Scotland’s unique historic environment. Although grant funding for 2022-23 is currently fully allocated to other locations, we hope to be able to offer funding for repair grants to Blairlogie and Dunblane in future funding rounds.

The scheme in now open for application from these areas, and traditional building owners can find out more about membership and how to join here.
