Explore Stirling

Stirling gained its own university in 1967, and city status in 2002, but it has been a Royal Burgh since the 12th century, and has had its own museum since 1874. Today our city is a vibrant community, home to numerous creative and third sector organisations as well as visitor attractions, galleries and event spaces.

To learn more about the history of Stirling and the architects responsible for so many of its 19th and 20th century buildings, you can collect our heritage trail, ‘The Men Who Built Stirling: John Allan & McLuckie & Walker’ for free from The Stirling Smith Art Gallery & Museum on Dumbarton Road.
