John Allan Celebration
The Trust is worked in partnership with other local organisations including the Stirling Local History Society and the Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum to celebrate the life and work of architect John Allan. The exhibition ran at the Stirling Smith from 24 March until 21 May 2017.
The exhibition explored the life and work of this fascinating man who was interested in antiquities, history, symbolism and religion. He was also a social reformer passionate about improving housing for the working classes. His buildings include Batterflats, Royal Gardens, various villas in King’s Park and Wolf Craig.
As part of the exhibition, SCHT appointed artist Iona Leishman to work with pupils from Allan’s Primary School to prepare artworks of several John Allan buildings. Photographer, Jo Cound, was also commissioned to take photographs of particular buildings to demonstrate the variety of architecture and details found on John Allan’s buildings.
A John Allan Leaflet, funded by SCHT, was prepared by Stirling Local History Society to provide insight into the life and work of John Allan. A book has also been published with support from the Trust, John Allan A Man Of Original Ideas and is available from the Stirling Smith or by contacting SCHT.

The exhibition traces the history of this important street and explores the architecture and businesses associated with its long and auspicious history. The exhibition is free and is in the central atrium of the Stirling Arcade.
To accompany the exhibition, a booklet has been published King Street A Place Of Quality which is free and is available either in the Arcade during the exhibition or from the Trust.
