Stirling's Story

Stirling is one of Scotland’s most historic places. A Royal Burgh since 1124, its strategic location and royal associations have combined to leave a remarkable built environment and important designed landscape of great historic and cultural significance.

While Stirling Castle, perched on its rocky volcanic outcrop, is the most prominent evidence of its historic pedigree, there are many other buildings which contribute to the surviving architectural history. These vary from 17th century townhouses to a historic 19th century shopping arcade. Stirling also has the University of Stirling located on the edge of the City boundary which has a spectacular campus setting and is well-known for its MacRobert Arts Centre.
