Dedicated to Maintaining and Improving Stirling's Heritage |
|
A Vision for the City of Stirling's Historic EnvironmentThe City of Stirling has an exceptionally rich heritage of buildings, spaces, gardens, landscapes and archaeology. This heritage resource is not evenly spread, with higher value elements being concentrated within the historic core of the city. However, there is scope to widen the understanding and appeal of other less well-known heritage areas and items. Stirling is an appealing place to live, and at first glance a prosperous city. This does not mean that it lacks socio-economic problems. Some of the worst affected areas directly correlate to those areas of greatest heritage interest or are immediately adjacent to areas of heritage opportunity. There have already been some successful heritage initiatives, limited in scope and scale, upon which the Stirling City Heritage Trust can build. There are also a number of organisations and partners committed to the heritage of Stirling for the Trust to work with and aid in their development. There is access to cultural heritage, but greater joined-up thinking and working is required to maximise the benefits for the local community. The Trust's vision for the City's historic environment is that this rich resource can be better and more widely understood; that it should be better conserved and enhanced for future generations through good maintenance and careful use; and that it can provide a vibrant context for modern day activity, and be a catalyst for environmental, cultural, economic and social change for the better. The Trust wishes to inspire the communities, organisations and businesses within the City to appreciate and take pride in the heritage around them and to stimulate debate on how it should be passed on to future generations. |
