The inventory of gardens and designed landscapes
What is the Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes?
Historic Scotland, jointly with Scottish Natural Heritage recognised the importance of historic gardens and designed landscapes in the Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes. The Inventory includes designed or ornamental landscapes such as private gardens, the policies of country estates, public parks, cemeteries, botanical gardens and plant collections.
The key considerations in selection are historical, horticultural and arboriculture value; nature conservation interest; and scenic interest both in themselves, and for the contribution they make to the scenic quality of the wider area.
At present, there are 2 areas within the City which are included on the Inventory: the Kings Knot and the grounds of Airthrey Castle.
