Board of Directors

All of whom give their time on a voluntary basis.

Philip Cleghorn (chairperson), is a retired businessman, who has lived in the Stirling area for 34 years. He is very interested and concerned about the architectural heritage within Stirling and where it's future lies. Philip is a member of King's Park Community Council. A long career both with NCR and as Financial and Services Director with his own company has left him with a wide range of skills and experiences that will be of benefit to the Trust.

Jim Panton is a qualified engineer with a wide range of experience including nearly 10 years as Director of Technical Services for Orkney Islands Council. Jim relocated to Stirling in 2001 and immediately took an interest in his environment. Jim served on Kings Park Community Council and became Chairman in 2004. Jim joined the Board of Stirling City Heritage Trust in the summer 2006.

David Black is an IT professional and freelance broadcaster, who has lived and worked in Stirling since 1989.  He is a member of Mercat Cross and City Centre Community Council and is a member of a number of other local community groups in the Top of the Town.  He is also a director of Stirling District Tourism Ltd.

Councillor Graham Reed represents the Castle Ward.  He came to Stirling in 1984 to take charge of the glass-blowing workshop at the University of Stirling before setting up a scientific glass apparatus company.  In 2002 Graham sold his company to invest in micro-scale windmills and is now Sales Director of Windsave Ltd.  Graham’s interests include nature conservation, photography and he is a member of the Stirling City Choir. 

Councillor Neil Benny represents the ward of Stirling West.  Schooled in Stirling, Neil graduated in Politics from Edinburgh University.  He is currently working for the Forestry Commission.

Advisor to the Board:

Mick Stewart is the Head of Planning & Regulation at Stirling Council. A Stirling resident and chartered Town Planner, Mick has a strong commitment to the historic built environment and has been instrumental in developing conservation skills within the Planning Service. Mick has interests in sailing and music.

Trust Managers:

Sonya Linskaill studied design before qualifying as an architect, and subsequently working for a number of years in private architectural practise. Her involvement in historic buildings, and developing interest in the conservation of our built environment, encouraged her to return to full time education qualifying with Post-graduate Diploma in European Urban Conservation.  Sonya last worked as a Technical Officer at the Scottish Civic Trust.  Away from conservation Sonya’s interests include learning Spanish, practising yoga and screen printing.

Jane Nelson is a qualified architect who was an associate of a small Glasgow practice for nearly 10 years. Following that she managed the Buildings at Risk Service for Scotland, spending 7 years with the Scottish Civic Trust.  Jane was a former Board member of the Stirling City Heritage Trust before taking over the post of Manager in January 2007.  Jane has been a Stirling resident for many years. Aside from family commitments Jane enjoys photography and dressmaking.

Heritage & Design Officer:

Robin Johnston - Originally from Northern Ireland, Robin studied history at the University of Ulster before moving to Scotland.  Having worked in property development for a number of years he returned to higher education to study architectural conservation at Edinburgh College of Art.  His interests include the built and natural environment, art history and travel.
